Very intelligent and politically- minded people

if you have the privelege to talk with a local...which is very likely at coffee shops and other places downtown...you will notice that most people in blacksburg are very intelligent and generate great conversation. But be advised...they are very politically minded and usually tend to be very liberal. This of course is only in town. Remember virginia is still a red state. Blacksburg is a democratic bubble. If you are a republican...you will probably find a debate inevitable, but don't worry, if you are intelligent and open minded...you will find the debate to be informative and enjoyable rather than insulting.

Nice people still exist.

As a general consensus, people in Blacksburg are nice. Sure, there are a few bad apples, but they are so few that most people know their names. I know... the concept of people being nice is very hard to grasp for city dwellers (especially New Yorkers and Bostonians :-) ) but it's true. If you go up and talk to someone...they will not insult you... if someone comes up to talk to you...you don't need to be scared...and...you may want to sit down for this one...ready...people may actually drive nicely, too! that's right...you may actually see someone let you out of a sidestreet or alley?parking lot some times. It's a beautiful city.
