Restaurant Name: PHO 2000
With so much hype about Bill Clinton having his meal here, it is no wonder that Pho 2000 is a "celebrity" shop. The moment you enter the air-conditioned outlet, you will be dazzled by the photographs taken of Bill Clinton's visit to the shop on its walls. During lunch time, Pho 2000 is packed with curious tourists like me who also heard that the former US President had once patronised the shop.
During our one-hour lunch, we sampled it's well-known pho (say "fur"). Echoing what fellow VTer, bpacker, said, the food is laden with msg. Personally, my fiancee and I were not impressed with food. We felt that there was too much hype about this shop. In fact, we checked out the pho prices in other local restaurants and they are even lower than what's offered at Pho 2000!
If you're first time visiting HCMC, drop by Pho 2000 for the experience of being in a "celebrity" shop!

Quan An Ngon: Best Vietnamese Restaurant in Town

Restaurant Name: Quan An Ngon
The moment we saw the long queue from the main road - we knew we had hit the right place for our dinner. True to the various online reviews I have read, Quan An Ngon is indeed the one place you must visit to sample local delights. Count your blessings if you can find a seat in this 400-seat restaurant. This is one place where the locals and foreigners would gather for HCMC's finest local fare at affordable price.
Quan An Ngon has a very interesting concept - it is said that the owner scouts for the best streetfood to be brought into the restaurant. Not on that, he also hired the best cooking chefs and set up the "hawker" concept in the restaurant. Here, you will find different "stalls" selling the various local delights from the whole of Vietnam. And trust me, the food is really good - much better than the various restaurants I have visited in Vietnam.
Despite the crowd, customer service is still up to our standard. As we were visiting the restaurant for the first time, the waiter was friendly and offered us many good recommendations. Service was fast so that more customers cound enjoy the food. Despite the crowd, the Manager himself actually brought us out of the restaurant to show us how we could walk from the restaurant to the Ben Thanh night market. That's what I call good service!
Favorite Dish: We loved the sugercane prawns, paper rice rolls and the fried rice! Yummy! It's a pity that there's only two of us - otherwise we could order more dishes to try!
