Simple Abundance - A Journey

by sailor_p - last update: Sep 18, 2009

Welcome to Our Journey

At the Great Pyramids of Giza... (Nov 09)
[Updated on 19 Sep 09]: Hi all, thanks for visiting my website. Time flies and we are into the last few months of 2009!

It has been a very busy year for Martin and me. Martin started the year with a new job. In the initial days, he was experience lots of stress but with God's grace, he's coping well now! As for me, it has been a very eventful year for me. And as usual, my workload has increased on top my current studies for a programme. However, the "busy" period would be ending soon and I would be going for a long-awaited holiday break - Japan! We would be visiting Japan in end Oct 09.

As for travelling, Martin and I did two short trips to the nearby countries. In May 09, we visited Hong Kong and at the same time, spent sometime with fellow VTer, bpacker, and her husband. In Jul 09, we went to Bangkok for a short break to unwind.

In the meantime, we are both looking forward to the break in Oct! Enjoy the remaining days of 2009 and God Bless!

A little about sailor_p

Well, sailor_p is also known as Theresa in real life. I live in Singapore and like any typical Singaporeans, I love to eat, shop and travel! Only in recently years, I have picked up sailing, scuba-diving and running as hobbies.

As for my full-time profession, I am involved in corporate developments for my company. This would include human resource, public relations, corporate planning and administration. In other words, I am "Jill" of all trades.

I am also happily married to Martin, an accountant by profession. We are still figuring out why we are so different in so many ways!

Running - My New Found Interest

Since early 2007, I have stopped sailing due to my new work commitment and also preparation of my wedding to be held at the end of the year. In addition, I also have to attend to some family matters and hence, I've kind of stopped travelling overseas too.

Thanks to fellow VTer, bpacker, who has been constantly encouraging me during this period. I decided to pick up running. Running has suddenly took a new meaning in my life. I used to hate running during schooldays and I would dread the annual Physical Fitness test where we were required to run 2.4km as part of the test. I still remembered that I would run for 0.8km and walked the remaining 1.6km!

Now, running has gave me a new meaning - showing me that nothing is impossible. I started running with bpacker and also on my own after work. In the course of training, limits were pushed and bars were further raised.

And for the first time in my life, I took part in the Anlene Orchard Mile - completing the 1.6km without stopping! It's pure running, no walking, unlike what I did in schools previously. And I clocked 10min 41s for the run!

What's next? Here're the runs I have done in 2007:

22 July 2007 - Mizuno Wave Run (10 km Women's Open) - Done
26 Aug 2007 - SAFRA Sheares Bridge Run & Half Marathon: Singapore Bay Run (12km Women's Open) - Done (Nett time: 1:41:36.36, Gun Time: 1:41:52.52)
9 Sep 2007 - Shape Run 2007 (5km Fun Run) - Done (35min58s)
16 Sep 2007 - Run for Hope /Terry Fox Run (8km Open) - Done (55min 30s)
21 Oct 2007 - Great Eastern Women 10k (10km Women's Open) - Done (Nett Time: 1:13:18.18, Gun Time: 1:14:59.59)
2 Dec 2007 - Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2007 (10km Women's Open) - Done (Nett time: 1:08:24, Gun Time: 1:08:40)

I am still actively running in 2008. So do join me in a few of these running events in Singapore!

Laser Sailing

Frankly speaking, I would never see myself roughing out in the seas. Shopping and doing "lady" sports such as aerobics are more for me. However, in 2003, I won a lucky draw voucher from my company to learn sailing. Since then, there's no stopping for me. Prior to my new boat, I was happily "fighting" on 888, the Laser Radial which is a olympic-class boat, with girls at least 10 years younger than me. :)

888 is a long-term chartered boat from SAF Yacht Club in Singapore. 888 is my first racing Laser boat. I had returned the boat to the club after I bought my new boat. I would deeply miss the boat and at the same time, wonder which is the next sailor to take 888 out.

Read more about Miracle, my new boat which I bought in Nov 2005 here.

Travelling

I've travelled to a number of countries such as Australia, Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Jordan and Israel. However, it was a to Cambodia that really changed my perception about travelling.

I've not travelled between 2003 - 2004, due to work commitments. 2005 have been a great year starting with a shopping trip to Hong Kong and a recent business trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia.

I was very myophic about travelling in the past and only believed in visiting large cities. However, I realised that there are so much beauty in regional countries and I just realized that I've missed so much in life. Hey, it's still not too late to do catch-up.
A great way to meet and make new friends...

On the Journey of Simple Abundance

I was introduced to the book "Simple Abundance" by Sarah Ban Breathnach in 2001. It was a book that transformed my thinking on my life. Over the years, I learnt to cherish every authentic moment in my life.

These few years saw me doing things I would never thought about doing and in doing so, I am truly experience the simple abundance on the Earth. We won't be here forever but it's a matter how we want to enjoy this early journey while we are here! I believe that we are here for a purpose.

Sounds philosophical? *grin* Do join me on this journey of simple abundance in life!
