a typical chinese saying, and i attest to that.
alas, my derserving break after more than a year's hiatus (all thanks to an extremely busy corporate job that hardly allows time for me to even breathe). sighz...but i guess thats the choice i make in life and i'll have to sleep on the bed i make.
anyways, this trip definitely dont come easy for me.
firstly, i was trying to use my mileage points to pay for the round trip on Singapore Airlines. Little did i expect Krisflyer (which is the loyalty program for Singapore Airlines) to mess up my name on the ticket. and changing name means i might not be able to get back on the original flight that i was booked on. to cut the long story short, it was an extremely painful experience dealing with Krisflyer.
Next comes the hotel accomodation, which was relatively easier compared to the above, but still not smooth sailing. Wanting to use my Amex points to claim for 3 nights accomodation, i called the Amex call center to enquire and they directed me to Renaissance Hotel (in Ho Chi Minh) to reserve the room before claiming the vouchers. 15 mins on the phone (long distance, mind you) and being transfered to at least 4 different persons, i finally got my questions answered, " Miss, we do not entertain reservations on the phone, pls go to our website at www.marriott.com to make your reservations online". duh...i just wasted god knows how much $ on my phone bill and this is the answer i got in return. nevertheless, did just that and the rest of the process with Amex was pretty ok.
2 days before i was due for my holiday, my husband called from India to tell me that hes stuck in Mumbai. All the roads and airports are closed due to the flood and monsoon (he was away on business and was supposed to fly from Mumbai to Ho Chi Minh so that he can meet me there directly). what a bummer!...i had to keep calling krisflyer to make changes to my flight schedule just to ensure that i coincide my timing with my husband's. trust me, this is an excruciatingly painful thing to do.
after countless obstacles, stress, frustration and anger, i finally landed in Ho Chi Minh on the 30th July 2005.
Taking the first breath of air from Saigon, i said to myself
"this trip's better be worth it".
