Lake , Snow & Ice - Magnificent Scenery

Day Trip To Lake Louise

Lake Louise Mid June
We were on a 7 day holiday in Banff and decided to drive to Lake Louise and surrounding districts for the day. We were quickly onto the Trans - Canada Highway for the one hour drive to Lake Louise. We did not stop during this scenic drive as we wanted to spend as much time as needed at Lake Lousie and being mid June we knew we would have plenty of time on the return journey as it did not commence to get dark until after 9 pm.

On arrival just after 11am we had trouble finding a parking space as it is a very popular destination. We were soon at lakeside. amongst the multitude of tourists scrambling for a good spot to take the ultimate photo. We left the tourists and walked around the left side of the lake to the Canoe Hire jetty where we obtained some peace and could soak up the beauty of the lake.

At the far end of the lake there is the rugged mountain covered in ice and snow, a great contrast to the ever changing colour of the lake.

From the Canoe Hire Jetty we obtained a great view of the hotel across the lake. We later walked over to the hotel and entered the hotel. The general public are welcome in the hotel and it is easy to take an hour walking through the lounges, hotel speciality shops and other public areas.

The hotel is located on high ground overlooking the lake and is the best place to view the lake, and take that important photo.

We did not walk around the lake, although I would have loved to have got up close to the snow and ice which feed the lake. Too far away and not enough time as we wanted to visit Moraine Lake during the afternoon.

The trip to Lake Louise was well worth the effort, my wife thought it was brilliant. One thought on leaving was " How Will It Look Frozen Over". Well, maybe we may have to return someday and find out.

Mike, you managed some beautiful views of the lake! I'm glad you enjoyed your Lake Louise experience. I've been there a couple of times myself and always marvel at its beauty.

Your turn to bring back nice memories! I remember playing cards in that beautiful lounge as we were waiting for the rain to stop. Good times, my friend, good times!!
