Tasmania - Australia's Hidden Secret

View of Hobart from Mt. Wellington
Tasmania is the smallest State of Australia, it is an island State located at the most southern point of the country and therefore experiences a much cooler climate than most other parts of Australia. We arrived in Hobart, the capital city, to a sunny late April day to commence our 10 day self drive holiday. We spent 4 days in Hobart and visited all the sights, of particular interest was the Port Arthur Convict Settlement which was an allday trip, another day trip to the Huon valley, treetop walk and visit to the Apple Museum, the Huon traditional boatbuilding sight, various old towns etc around Hobart. We then drove to the West Coast to the small town of Strahun and the Gordon River world heritage forest, a most magnificant place that should not be missed, it is true wilderness. Then up the coast to Cradle Mountain where we were greeted by evening snow and the next morning torrential rain so we left and drove to the east coast to visit the Freycinet National Park and Wineglass Bay. After an overnight stay we slowly drove up the east coast and then inland to Launceston where we spent 3 days enjoying the local sites and adjoining districts.

We met this puppy with his trainer for the Guide Dogs for the Blind as we walked through Hobart's Botanical Gardens.
