Coffs Harbour On The Beautiful North Coast of NSW

by Mikebb - last update: Feb 28, 2007

Home Of The "Big Banana"

The Big Banana Theme Park
Driving from Brisbane to Sydney we had a 2 day stopover in Coffs Harbour during the Spring of 2006. Coffs is 400km south of Brisbane and 545 km north of Sydney and enjoys a sub tropical climate. Surrounded by the Pacific Ocean on one side, farms and banana plantations are interwoven between the extensive rainforest national parks and the city of Coffs Harbour. The region boasts a population of 90,000 with the major centres being Coffs Harbour, Nambucca Heads, Belligen and Dorrigo.

The district has 15 National Parks and Reserves, 37 State Forests, 84,000ha of World Heritage area and 77,000ha of Solitary Islands Marine Park. The area is developed for tourism with many attractions, however I believe the abundant natural attractions are the highlight of the region, the Whale Watching, Fishing Charters, Hiking the rainforest or just relaxing in a quite spot and absorbing the beauty of nature around you.

Beaches Everywhere

For those who enjoy sand and water there is plenty to be found along the Coffs Harbour coast. The water is warm for most of the year, the sand great for getting that nice tan and the Pacific Ocean provides great surf.

Very good tips. It must be crowded in season though. I have a Polish friend who was there and liked a lot. There is a little rocky Pig Island there he wanted to swim to... or send there his boss as he used to joke :-)
