My home for 33 years and the best years of my life. Climate is fantastic, people love enjoying themselves and we are the most isolated city on the planet. |
| Our Home, Sorrento, Perth |
| | Living In Sorrento, Perth We built our home 13 years ago and have had a fantastic time. Sorrento is a northern beach suburb and we are lucky to be 3 minutes walk from the surf beach and similar walk to the Sorrento Quay and Hillarys Marina. Sorrento Quay is the most popular tourist destination in Perth, many restaurants, shops, a fine beach, a water slide park and the wharf where ferries leave to take people to the holiday island of Rottnest 18 km offshore. |
| Perth City overlooking the Swan River |
| | Perth City View From South Perth The city centre is built on the northern banks of the Swan River and since I arrived in 1972 the city has developed and expanded upwards with the construction of many high rise office blocks.Roads passing through the heart of the city have been closed to traffic and are now colourful malls with Forrest Chase Mall often having lunchtime entertainment or exhibitions. The city has become more international with the department stores and other shops remaining open on Sunday's resulting in the city being a vibrant place on the weekend.
The city and suburbs have a population exceeding 1.5 million people with all the facilities expected of any modern city. There are many entertainment and restaurant districts close by including Northbridge, Subiaco and the Burswood Resort Casino and Entertainment Complex. Beautiful beaches are not far away and it is easy to get to Cottesloe beach by train or Scarborough by train and connecting bus.
The metro rail will quickly get you to Fremantle, the port city located just 14km from Perth City Centre. Fremantle has many old buildings, great restaurants, a maritime museum, plus several pub breweries where you will be assured a great time.
The rail network is being extended south to Mandurah, a beautiful town located on the Peel Inlet and Estuary approximately 80 km south of Perth. The rail service is scheduled for completion in December 2007, the trip expected to take 48 minutes. This is a magnificent destination for a day trip or overnight stay, for more details view my Mandurah page. The rail service is now operating and I recommend tourists take a day trip. |
