Why go to Ethiopia?

I had been looking around for a country where tourism is not very well developed up to now and so Ethiopia was already somewhere in my head.
But a TV documentary on the Erta Ale volcano and the Dallol hydrothermal springs in the Danakil desert gave me the final kick. I like volcanos and definately wanted to see the lava lake of Erta Ale. As soon as possible. As long as it existed (see pc).

But I also wanted to see some culture, to get into contact with the people.

Therefore my four weeks in Ethiopia were devided into two parts:

Part 1 (11 days):
Prebooked tour with a group to
Danakil Desert with Erta Ale volcano and Dallol sulfur springs.
Itinary:
Arrival in Addis - Nazreth - Awash NP / Bilen Lodge - Semera - Afdera salt lake - Erta Ale volcano - Assale salt lake and Dallol - Bere Ale - Mekele - Weldya

Part 2 (18 days):
Solo travel Northern Historcal Circuit
Itinary:
Weldya - Lalibela - Gondar - Simien Mountains - Gondar (Timkat) - Bahir Dar (town, monasteries, Blue Nile Falls and Tis Abay village) - Addis - daytrip to Lake Zaway
