nothing will ever prepare you for the visit of the secret annex. you will eerily feel anne frank's isolation and fear of being discovered.

an enclosed courtyard dating back to the 14c. originally built as a sanctuary for Catholic women who lived like nuns but did not take the vow. beautiful houses and the oldest house in amsterdam is here. **a very difficult place to find...i can't even begin to tell you how we got there, it seemed we were going around in circles...we were circling the actual courtyard but could not find the entrance to it. but it is worth looiking for!**

a fantastic introduction to Amsterdam. make sure you hop off and check out the sites at the stops. **complaint: terrible start times. their start times were so late in the morning (10) which meant you didn't get to the sites until about 11 and your morning was not well spent** **plus: your ticket is valid until noon the next day which means you can use it as a mode of transportation the following day**

its free...and if you haven't seen how diamonds are cut and refined...then this is the place to go! and if your planning on buying a diamond anyway...you'll find the best here! free beverages while you wait for your tour. **hint: if you are going as an individual and not part of a large tour group then be forewarned that weekends are hectic here. they cater to the alrge tour groups first then wait until there is a large enough number of inidividuals to start it; problem is, they do it in different languages so if you are the only english speaking person then you'll be waiting a long time for a tour. weekdays are apparently better and earlier in the morning is best. i suppose you can;t complain since its a free tour!**

i absolutely loved it here...but of course i do love my flowers! what used to be the hub of the tulip trade, now serves as a local flower market. you'll find all sorts of flowers here and lots of souvenirs to take home. my favourite are the wooden tulips!

located in the industrial heritage site and the original site of the heineken brwery in amsterdam. a fun place to go and a great deal too. for 10 euros/person, you get to tour the brewery, learn about beer-making, and get 3 complimentary heiney beers to drink on site and a heiney glass as a souvenir!

Rembrandt's house is now turned into a museum...see where his art was created. also has a fully stocked studio which is occasionally used by guest artists.
