INTERSTATE FREEWAY I-5 - Oceanside

INTERSTATE FREEWAY I-5

By Interstate Freeway I-5 By Car Review

I-5 (= Interstate 5) is a main north-south freeway of the West. It goes from Mexican to Canadian border.
There are four exits to Oceanside on mile 51 to 54 (the mile indicates distance to the Mexican border).

List of all I-5 exits including 4 to Oceanside:

Parking lots By Car Review

There are quite a lot parking lots around Oceanside especially around the Harbor and close to the pier. But many of them are paid usually $1 per hour and $5 (sometimes $3) all day. On free parkings the time is usually limited to 2 hours during business hours. Watch road signs and check the link below for more details.

XING - Oceanside

XING

What is XING? By Car Review

I didn't know what word XING means when I arrived to the USA first time hehe. After my visit in San Diego and driving to Oceanside, I know: it's a pedastrian crossing.
Strange word, is it from Chinese or what? :-)

Btw my biggest (over 500,000 words) Oxford English-Polish Dictionary doesn't contain this word, neither my Cambridge International Dictionary of English. I wonder WHY?

Never mind, watch for XING signs and big writings XING or PED (pedastrians) on the street surface whenever you drive in Oceanside and don't worry, there are not many pedastrians there - they rather drive than walk hehe.

From CHRIS (balfor):
XING: When you saw it painted on the road it meant just what you thought it did. The X is kind of an abbreviation for cross so it really was telling your it was a crossing.
Thank you Chris for your explanation!

SOUTH COAST HIGHWAY (S-21) - Oceanside

SOUTH COAST HIGHWAY (S-21)

Traffic jams? By Car Review

Generally I found driving on freeways from Los Angeles to San Diego and in San Diego County area including Oceanside much more easier than in Europe.

They are rarelly really jammed - sometimes traffic is slow (especially close to popular exits) = 30mph or slower but in contrary to some European countries
the traffic almost never stops. And they never create 6 lines (= mirror to mirror hehe) on a 4-line freeway (just to pack more cars on the road) like in Rome for example.

So, if you want to see what are trafic jams... welcome to Europe.

We arrived to Oceanside by a car from San Diego - more exactly from Del Mar via Carlsbad by the Highway marked S-21, that is by the Pacific Coastal Highway called Coast Highway in Oceanside: N. Coast Highway north of intersection with Mission Ave. and S. Coast Highway south of the intersection.

Distances to Oceanside (marina):
Cities:
San Diego - 41 mi (66 km)
Tijuana (Mexican border) - 53 mi (85 km)
Long Beach - 71 mi (114 km)
Manhattan Beach - 86 mi (138 km)
Los Angeles - 83 mi (134 km)
Santa Monica - 97 mi (156 km)

Attractions:
Legoland, Carlsbad - 10 mi (16 km)
Disneyland, Anaheim - 56 mi (90 km)

Look at the maps online:
Follow the links below and look for Oceanside in California. Hmm... there is Oceanside in New York, Oregon and Washington state as well.

OCEANSIDE - SOUTH COAST HIGHWAY - Oceanside

OCEANSIDE - SOUTH COAST HIGHWAY

Traffic By Car Review

We came to the Oceanside VT meeting on Saturday afternoon on 12 April 2003. The traffic on the Pacific Coastal Highway was not heavy although we had to wait a little at some lights.
But it seems that the highways around maybe jammed at some summer weekends and special events.
