  • This is not warm Carribean Sea, this is the Pacific Ocean, so do not expect to bath (unless you are a sea lion) in April or May. Although... if you wish.

  • Be carefull not only on the beach... especially when you are white like flour = like me at the beginning of my USA trip.
Long sleeves recommended even in April.

  • I was in Coronado on 12 April 2003 (just before fantastic VT-meeting in Oceanside) - on Saturday before midday. It was not crowded area that weekend day.
But there was (not very long) line to The Sun Deck Bar and Grill in front of Hotel Del Coronado. So, I am afraid that it maybe crowded area in summer weekends. Am I wrong?
Maybe better to go there out of the high season!

    From LINDA (lmqluque):
The Hotel Del is not usually too crowded because it is a hotel and there is room enough for it's guests. Most people you saw were guests of the hotel. As you noted, the prices are high at the restaurants and most people who can't afford to stay at the hotel don't eat there. I used to eat there quite often and think the higher price is worth it when considering the atmosphere.

  • Don't cross double yellow/orange? line, you may get a ticket.
Do NOT ask me how much it is? I don't now but I am sure that neither $100 nor $200. It seems that they don't like number "0" hehe, so they usually ticket you for $381 or $147 or so :-))). I wander why?

  • Watch traffic signs next to traffic lights - enlarge my picture: sometimes (like in my picture) you are allowed to U-turn in the intersection but sometimes NOT.
Warning: there are cameras in many intersections in Coronado and they are not webcams hehe. Are they used to measure traffic and change lights or... to get you a ticket if you drive wrong?

  • Take your dog on leash unless otherwise posted. They must be leashed in Coronado Beach.

Driving / Road Rules: One way streets

  • Although Coronado is small there were quite a lot one way streets there. Watch traffic signs.

One way streets were often wide (3 lanes) and they were almost empty when I was driving there (at early afternoon on Saturday). Remember that you drive one-way street not to U-turn on them!

A great page on another lovely California beach town. The bird on your page is a Solitary Sandpiper, I believe.

Returning to your Coronado to enjoy another sunny day at the beach. It's a lovely area.

Sure the bird is neither an albatross nor a sea gull (long beak, tall legs, coat don't fit). Might be either an American Bittern or better a Ruff but I have no book on American birds to be sure. You have extensively visited South Ca, I was more on North!
