You can sit down, taste drinks /wine or just juice/ coffee at Babcock & Story Bar at Hotel Del Coronado (just next to the entrance to the beach).
Nice and - no doubts - not cheap place to watch people hehe.

Restaurant Name: Sheerwater
Sheerwater is the Hotel del Coronado's oceanfront restaurant featuring expansive outdoor dining terraces and giant fireplaces.
Sheerwater offers California coastal cuisine: regional specialties that emphasize bold flavor, tantalizing spices and seasonally inspired menus.
The bar offers signature margaritas, blended tropical drinks and California's premier wines. Serving breakfast, lunch, cocktails, afternoon tapas and dinner daily.
Favorite Dish: Hmm... expensive area: just Fresh Brewed Coffe ($1.95 + tax).
But if... I would choose:
1. Mediterranean salad (baby spinach, frisee, radicchio, focaccia, balsamic dressing) $6.50
2. Charbroiled Angus Filet Mignon (braised shortrib, gratin potato, young vegetables, california cabernet reduction) $23.50
3. Glass of white wine: Robert Mondavi "La Famiglia", Pinot Grigio from Napa Valley in California $8.00
4. Key Lime Pie (red berry coulis) $6.25
5. Cafe Coronado (what's that?) $6.25
Good choice?
Hmm... $50,5 + tax + tip = $70?
I'd rather go to the ZOO + Wild Animal Park ($52.65) + Sea World ($89) but...

Not much choice but if you are hungry and you are not going to spend a fortune in restaurants of nearby Hotel Del Coronado...
Favorite Dish: Charbroiled Hamburger $7.50 + tax (chips included).

Enlarge my picture to see how much they are (in April 2003) - isn't it a little bit expensive? Hmm... location, location, location.
As I know you must add 7.5% sales tax to these prices (food is free of sales taxes but only food in stores/supermarkets) - am I wrong?

Sure the bird is neither an albatross nor a sea gull (long beak, tall legs, coat don't fit). Might be either an American Bittern or better a Ruff but I have no book on American birds to be sure. You have extensively visited South Ca, I was more on North! |
