Short intro on Spain? Impossible.
This is my top destination in Europe. I've fallen in love to Andalusia. If I ever live abroad I'll live just here in Andalusia - in the south of Spain.

Spain is a big country of various climate, landscapes and attractions.

My short impressions (I've never been in Galicia, Cantabria and Asturia - north and northwest Spain):

Pyrenees on the north (Jaca) - unforgettable.
Barcelona - unforgettable (my top big city in Europe),
Madrid - too noisy, too crowded but some places are very interesting,
Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada - unforgettable.
Andalusia at all - the best.
Zaragoza - unforgettable.
Salamanca, Valladolid, Burgos, Pamplona - more then interesting,
and many, many more unforgettable, smaller and bigger town and cities.

The nightlife - the best.
The accommodations - what you like.
Beer - so,so.
Wines - the best.
Eating - more then good (paella, arosso blanco).
Prices - reasonable, somtimes low, sometimes high.
People - the best!

So, come and discover Spain - country with "Passion for Life".

Pros:People, landscapes, sea, nightlife, picturesque towns, climate
Cons:Over-crowded at some places in high season

I am also in love with Andalucia, and was lucky as you to drive to Cabo de Gata ... :)))) I will go back soon ... but ... as you say ... the coast is crowded in summer :) everybody wants to come here :)
