"Last chance to cross Polish-Slovak border" Oravska Polhora by matcrazy1
Oravska Polhora Travel Guide: 27 reviews and 35 photos
I, my wife and Kathy (Kodi01) from Dallas, Texas crossed the Polish-Slovak border in Korbielow - Oravska Polhora. Due to enlargement of European Union there will be no border check-up there since 1 May 2004. Haha, it was probably our last chance to see the border checkup there.
.
Oravska Polhora, border village is the most northern point of the Slovak Republic located in a valley of Polhoranka river surrounded by Oravske Beskydy mountains. It's a very looong village along Slovak Highway 521.
Hmm... nothing interested there except shopping possibilities as food and drinks are mostly cheaper than in Poland. So, we stopped there for small shopping. Btw there are two ski-lifts there which were closed due to lack of snow in October.
- Pros:Food and drink (beer) shopping, skiing in winter
- Cons:Not very interesting destination to be honest
- In a nutshell:Goodbuy border, welcome EU!

Very interesting little page. Ah you caught the smugglers on camera.
Hi Matt, did you ever taste Slana Voda?? Well we did last summer............ see my Oravska Polhora page!
That is right, the backdraw of EU is unemployment for custom officers ! I am sure they will get other jobs, in each country, anyway !
Nice little page! Thse border huts, if they are anything like those between Portugal and Spain will just be left to go to ruin. They should try and turn them into shops or cafe's though...
Matt, an interesting little page on where these two borders meet, and what will happen as the effects of the EU take hold!! I don't blame you for buying that cold bottle of beer!
Love the pic with the trash boxes a lot! But you're right, the pics of the border will soon be history!
I hope to have a page like this someday, thanks for making me a STAR in Slovakia! I loved the mountains and train! :o)))
Great that the borders open up! Hahaha, but sometimes you do get confused where the border is, lol. I had this summer in Norway. I was eagerly waiting to get to the border to take a pic, only to find out about 20 km later that I already crossed it, lol
Wouldn't it be great to travel through Europe without being checked at every border? Looking forward the 1st of May, 2004
great page matt, very interesting to read it all
