This city is so beautiful and fascinating. It has his own soul.
You definitly MUST visit it.

My imagination on Amsterdam before my visit :-)))):

When I was 10yo: nothing;
When I was 15yo: sex, drugs and rock & roll;
When I was 20yo: sex, museums,drugs, bicycles
When I was 25yo: museums, canals, bicycles, Heineken, drugs (and to be honest sex as always :-).

My impressions after my visit:
1. sex? - I didn't try it there rather :-) then :-(, I walked around The Red Light District just for fun, there are always hoardes of tourists and you shouldn't feel intimidated, day or night,
2. drugs? - as above although some teenagers wanted to sell me some,
3. museums - great, you must visit them,
4. canals - beautiful,
5. Heineken - delicious,
6. bicycles - I've never seen so many at one place (even in biggest hypermarkets).

Pros:Beautiful canals, great museums, fantastic place to meet people from all over the world
Cons:Overcrowded city

What a lovely city with all the canals, bridges, and museums. The heinekens brewery sounds like a great place to spend a few hours.

yes, i CAN tell you why the hell all the bikes are painted black and look like they're 20 years old- it's to deter theft. any bike that is new-looking gets nicked pronto! owners paint them black as camouflage. hope this relieves a nagging question!
