by matcrazy1 - last update: Jul 12, 2003

Great and modern city

ME IN ROTTERDAM
Rotterdam is a vital part of the economy of the Netherlands. The Port of Rotterdam, the largest port in the world with a total throughput of about 300 million metric tons a year provides a solid base for industry in and around the Rotterdam area. Its population is about 575000, which makes it one of the largest cities in the Netherlands.

A large complex of ports Europoort ('Euro gate')and industrial areas was created between Rotterdam and the entry to the North Sea.

The population grew (joining of municipalities) to over 900.000 inhabitants. The agglomaration counts for almost 2,5 million! Rotterdam is the engine and a very special town in NL indeed.
