Let's meet :-)))

The first European official Virtual Tourist meeting will take place on 6th - 8th May in Verona, Italy. Well, in real the meeting will take place in Valeggio sul Mincio, 25 km southwest of Verona. My wife (matcrazy0) and I will go there and we both can't wait... Could you join us and many other VT-ers, please? You are welcome :-)

We will stay like many other VT-ers in nearby Valeggio sul Mincio - more details there.

My difficult short visit in the past

I was in Verona (+ Mantova and Vicenza) only a few hours driving back to Poland from Barcelona and Valencia in Spain. Well, I was a student that time and it was before 1990 (before communism fall). Traveling that time was very difficult for me for many reasons. My passport was stored at police and I had to aplicate for it before each trip outside communist block (staying in looong queques, once I was refused), then I needed visas (cost!) and my budget was extremely low... Keep in mind that average salary in my country located on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain was approx. US$25 that time (a month not a day). Now, it's over US$800... more soon.

Why did I travel?

Well, despite so many difficulties and inconveniences I used to travel abroad each year that time. I was too curious of the world, other countries and cultures not to do that. And some of my travels (but not that one) were more travels for a job than for sightseeing. I could earn 50 - 100 (!) times more in the West than in my own country! And I used to spend that money for... a car and next travels :-)

So, do not expect any restaurant tips (I ate sandwiches made from canned food bought with many difficulties in Poland) or hotel tips (my car was my uncomfortable accommodation) or pictures of museums inside (they costed too much). I dreamed to become someday "normal traveler" that time. Well, thanks to low budget I skipped freeways/motorways in Italy (they costed a lot) and I saw a lot of places on the way. And I can't complain at all... I was so much happy to travel around "the West" which was not that common in Poland that time... and I am very happy that it's so easy now. I can't wait and keep my fingers crossed for next nations and cultures (east of Poland) them to start to travel so easy as I am able to do now.

I put a few pictures took in Verona, Mantova and Vicenza with old and very simple Soviet camera Smiena 8M (haha) on East German ORWO films (not so easy available in stores in Poland that time) in travelogues. I promise to add more when I come back from the first European VT-meeting... I can't wait :-).
