I AND HASSAN II TOWER IN THE BACKGROUND - Rabat

Rabat (NOT better known worldwide Casablanca) is the capital of Morocco and with population of over 1 million its the second largest city after Casablanca.

I was surprised to see so large city and the capital with so many calm and relaxing areas to visit. Rabat just didn't look as large and capital city (good!) at many places. Aditionally in contast to other main tourist centres within Morocco I found Rabat free of unfriendly guiding, hustling, street begging etc., ok - almost free :-).

Each visitor takes a similar picture :-)

Pros:Fascinating Islamic architecture and historical places, peace and quiet of Chellah
Cons:Lack of tourist information at place, hot weather
In a nutshell:Two days is not enough!

Great tips Matt, brings make nice memories of Rabat and makes me look forward to Saturday when I'm off to Morocco for 2 weeks. I rememebr those guards at the Tour Hassan - they seemed very happy to pose for photos but then expected lots of Dirhams!

Interesting because exotic, lots of practical information. Is there no way of only just peeping into a mosque for a non-Muslim? I wonder why Moroccans don't appreciate cats - would they rather have a plague of mice and rats? Chellah sounds really great.

Matt, these pages on Rabat are just excellent. Some awesome photographs. So sad about the poor cat! Great warning tips. Thorough, informative, helpful, well written, and, best of all, interesting.

Matt, it is another of your excellent pages ! You are right, 2 days are not enough for Rabat. I have been around 30 days in Rabat (not always visiting, though) and I have not visited everything yet !
