Magical Paris

by matcrazy1 - last update: Jul 7, 2003

The pyramid in front of the Louvre Museum
I was twice in Paris but I spent only three days in Paris (+ one in Eurodisney) and I'm sure now that it's a MAGICAL CITY or rather many quite different cities in one area.

My short first impressions:
1. There are many quite different districts in Paris (modern La Defense, world of artists - Montmartre, green Champ de Mars, old Ile de la Cite etc.),
2. People of Paris are very friendly and always helpful,
3. In my opinion the best district to visit is Montmartre with Pl. du Tertre and modern La Defence district,
4. Views from the top of the Eiffel Tower are amazing,
5. Louvre Museum is big and contains many various kinds of art - it's very interesting especially for the art enthusiasts,
6. Centre of Pompidou, Cite des Sciences et de l'Industrie (City of Science and Industry) and district La Defense are great examples of modern architecture,
7. Driving is a little chaotic and crazy, parking a car hmmm... quite difficult, you should learn parking bumper to bumper (at a distance 10cm=4 inches during 20 seconds:-) before entering the city or... join excellent metro (subway) system and walk.

Montmartre - artists, atmosphere and mimes

Montmartre - artistic district of Paris is a must. Here is exactly what you expect of Paris: art, atmosphere and mimes - a very interesting job by the way :-).

Modern Paris

I was surprised, good surprised looking at modern architecture of La Defense district. Modern architecture in old Paris? Controversial? I don't think so, I liked it.

Hi Matt, your tips will help us on our 3 night stopover on the way to USA. Last time in Paris 1993, but did not see much.

Yes, it's a magical place. I spent ten days there last June and had a great time cycling all around and going to the operas.
