Iraq: Just like Hell but hotter

Operation Iraqi Freedom

Saddam's grandkid's playground
Yay for freedom, ain't it grand? What can I say? This place is a mess. I'm sorry, I cannot convince myself to the contrary. Shias kill Sunnis; Sunnis kill Shia; The Kurds try to pretend that they have their own country so no worries, and the Christians and Jews (damn few of each) are stepping over each other to get the hell out.

The lovely governments of certain unnamed Middle East countries (cough*syriairansaudi*cough) either turn a blind eye to the nuts who cross their borders to enter Iraq or assist them in doing so, and the Iraqi government stinks.

Ah yes. Ancient and intractable religious hatreds. You can almost taste the rich, gooey flavor.

What now?

Nothing. Hope that the Iraqis get their stuff together. We leave, it'll make the pull out of Vietnam look like Disneyland; so we stay. Maybe old Mookie Al Sadr gets run over by a bus. That would be a shame. Maybe Maliki resigns and a representative and honest man will take his place; Maybe I'll win a lottery. Who knows it could happen?

The US Military

Regardless, whether you support the idea of deposing Saddam, like Bush, hate Bush, isolationist or not, I can say that without a doubt some of the finest Americans (and Aussies, Brits, Poles, Italians, Romanians, Mongolians, Hungarians, etc and so on) are here in this country doing the best they can in a difficult and complex place and they all deserve our support.
