Brekstad is the public center of the Fosen peninsula, which lies on the North side of the Trondheimsfjord.
Brekstad is a town in the Ørland Kommune, the smallest kommune in Norway, but one of the most densily populated with its almost 6000 inhabitants.
Ørland, and Brekstad, is famous for its unique light, because this end of the peninsula is almost flat, there's no mountains stoping the sun from shining for 20 hours a day, April-August. Many artists from all over the world visit Brekstad to try to make a painting that reflects both the beautiful costline and the unique light.
Thanks to the Atlantic Ocean, and the lack of mountains, it is almost always windy at Brekstad!
If you are in Trondheim, you should absolutely take the trip to Brekstad, it takes only 50 minutes by boat, or 1 hour of driving, and then 20 minutes by ferry if you want to bring your car.
