Famous City of Pilgrimage

Lourdes is a city made most famous because of the visions of a peasant girl, Bernadette Soubirous in 1858. Bernadette claimed to have seen the Virgin Mary here on 18 different occasions.

In her visions, Bernadette was told to have a church built here. Now there are many churches and masses said here in several languages.

Way to the Basilica

There is also water flowing from a spring Bernadette discovered here. People have claimed to have been miraculously cured from this water. Try some, or bring some home with you!

arrived late after missing a flight from Orly, but the night and few extra hours made my Camino de Santiago so much more meaningful ;-)))

Thank you for your birthday wishes. Bizarrely, we have a Grotto of Lourdes near here, in Thurmont Pennsylvania, where some old hermit spent many years... Cheers.
