THE MERSEY BEAT CHANGED LIVERPOOL FROM JUST A PLACE THAT SHIPS CAME TO STOP AT THE ALBERT DOCKS....BUT MUSIC FROM AMERICA HELPED INSPIRE THAT NEW WAVE OF THE MERSEY BEAT SOUND..............THE MERSEY BEAT HAS CHANGED THE WAYS OF POP MUSIC FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
John Lennon, James Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Richard Starkey (also known as Ringo Starr) were born during the 1940s in Liverpool, England. During the post war period, Liverpool
was a dingy depressed town and money was scarce. Two decades later, these four men born into working class obscurity would take the world by storm in a phenomenon our culture refers to as Beatlemania. Liverpool has long played a leading role in the formation of the world's popular music culture. And it's a part that now goes way beyond the groundbreaking days of the 1960s.

Liverpool has produced more chart-topping
No 1 artists and bands than any other city in the UK. Apart from The Beatles' No 1's, how many can you remember? Visit the city and you can check your score at the wall of fame in Mathew Street where the chart success of each and every one of Liverpool's No 1 artists is celebrated in a unique montage of golden discs recalling more than 50 years' contribution to world music.

As you'd expect, The Beatles are well remembered in the city of their birth. You can visit the Casbah, the place where it all started or join a Magical Mystery Tour; visit Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields and the National Trust-owned childhood home of Paul McCartney.

The group's legacy to Liverpool is rich and famous and has contributed to the city's renowned reputation as the home of great and diverse popular music talent. Visit Liverpool's exclusive
Beatles Website linking all related Liverpool Beatles information on one site. For Attractions and Event information this needs to be the first stop for all true Beatles fans.

Iconic 80s bands such as
Echo and The Bunnymen, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, The Christians and Frankie Goes to Hollywood all form part of Liverpool's new musical extravaganza.

John Lennon met Paul McCartney when they were both performing in Skiffle Groups, which were homespun bands that played a combination of folk, rock and jazz. John was in a group called The Quarrymen, which later became John and the Quarrymen. Paul introduced John to George Harrison, who was two years younger but showed extraordinary talent. John, Paul and George, with the addition of John’s Friend from art college, Stu Sutcliffe and a drummer named Pete Best, set out to work in German clubs, where musicians were able to make a paltry living playing strip clubs and low end establishments. Ringo was performing in many of the same establishments with the group Rory Storm and the Hurricanes. During their time in Germany, Stu Sutcliffe decided to return to his first love, art, and a new love, a woman he had met in Germany named Astrid. Stu later died of a brain hemorrhage, which some suspect was due to his previous involvement in a club fight. The remaining members, now called “The Silver Beatles” returned to Liverpool, where John dealt with feelings of failure and a pregnant girlfriend, whom he reluctantly married.

When I saw the word Liverpool on your list of travel pages I KNEW it was going to be all about the Beatles -- and it is! I like your evocative (and as always *colorful*) descriptions of places where the Beatles used to hang out.
