UNIQUE CITY OF THE WORLD

by Onedragon - last update: Nov 3, 2006

IS THIS A MOVIE????

NEAR THE ARSENALE BOAT STOP
THERE CAN BE NO OTHER PLACE LIKE THE MAKINGS OF VENICE,ITALY...ALMOST ,IF NOT LIKE A TOWN DESCRIBED IN A BOOK ABOUT LANDS UNKNOWN AND FAR AWAY...AS SAID 117 ISLANDS LAY BELOW THE COBBLESTONES AND RUSTIC EUROPEAN BUILDINGS OF A CITY UNLIKE ANY OTHER CITY LAYING ON THE WATERS .
WHO COULD IMAGINE TO MAKE A RESORT OF SUCH A MAZE OF SMALL WINDING PATHWAYS THAT SOMETIMES AND MANY OTHER TIMES ..COME TO ONLY WATER ..THAT HAS TO EITHER BE CONTINUED BY BOAT OR REJECTED AND RETURN TO MAKE ANOTHER CHOICE OF PATHWAY TO GET TO WHERE ONE WANTED TO GO IN THE FIRST PLACE. The first settlers of Venice were the Ligurians who perhaps came first and established themselves on the Euganei hills arriving here from the sea and the land, the Trojans escaping from their town and the Venetians coming from the Slavonic countries. All these peoples who came to the region joined the inhabitants of the Euganei Hills to form a single people.During their restless peregrinations the fore-fathers of the present Venetians, landed at Rivoaltum on the banks of a River which crossed the Lagoon and flowed into the sea at the present-day harbour of San Nicolò.

The first Venetians arrived there in two separate moments.

First when Pipino the Frankish King tried to seize the rich islands for his tradings and second, after a terrible sea-quake which destroyed Medoaco, situated on the outlet of the Brenta River between Malamocco and the petroleum channel ( Canale dei petroli ).

Today in Malamocco's Church there is a big picture showing Christ and the Madonna of Marina, both made of wood, which were found in the sea after the tragedy. The very picture reminds us of the sea-quake.

It was at Rialto that the maritime tribunes or the oldest captains handed over command of the city to the first Doge, Paolo Luciano Anafesto.

THE SCENES ARE MAJESTIC AND ALMOST OVERWHELMING TO THE SENSES.WHAT PLACE CAN CONTINUALLY OFFER SO MANY DELIGHTS TO THE SENSES OF SIGHT....THERE ARE MANY...BUT ..VENICE IS VENICE....ISN'T IT WONDERFUL THAT PLACES LIKE THIS PLACE EXIST. SO AS TO SHOW US THAT DREAM WORLDS ACTUALLY DO EXIST.

A WALK DOWN GARIBALDI STREET

SOUTH OF THE CROWDS OF ST. MARKS..IS THE QUITENESS OF GARIBALDI STREET AND IT"S BEAUTY.
THIS AREA SEEMED TO LIGHT UP WITH MANY LOCALS GREETING EACH OTHER ALMOST EVERYTIME I WALKED DOWN THE STREETS..WHETHER IT WAS DAY OR NIGHT...I SAW PEOPLE GREETING EACH OTHER AS A FRIEND GREETS A FRIEND.

Eli, finally it is settled thanks to you. The Venitian masks used to scare me a bit but now it´s Carnival (meaning "farewell to the flesh", hmm...)! You´re a flood of inspiration!
