Philadelphia

The Liberty Bell
The historic area of Philadelphia has been called the most historic square mile in the United States. Its centerpiece is Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell.
While not the definitive book on the subject of travel, "1,000 Places to See Before You Die" gives a good start to a travel plan. The world is so full of wonders I'd love to see and do as much as possible!

Thoughts Worth Sharing

I have no special talents. I am passionately curious.
-Albert Einstein

Come my friends, 'tis not too late to seek a newer world.
- Alfred Tennyson

"Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until
they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born."
- Anais Nin

"When you set out on the voyage to Ithaca, pray that your journey may be long, full of adventures, full of knowledge...."
-Konstantinus Kavafis

Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.- Miriam Beard

The man who doesn't read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them. -----Mark Twain

Too much sanity may be madness. But maddest of all, to see life as it is.....and not as it should be! - Don Quixote - Miguel de Cervantes

Those who visit foreign nations but associate only with their own country-men change their climate but not their customs. They see new meridians but the same men; and with heads as empty as their pockets return home with traveled bodies but untravelled minds.- Caleb Colton

The only journey is the one within.- Rainer Maria Rilke
Candles at Sacre Coeur
Readers to be in Guatemala
Unusual travel suggestions are dancing lessons from God.- Kurt Vonnegut

A journey is like marriage. The certain way to be wrong is to think you control it.- John Steinbeck

If we are always arriving and departing, it is also true that we are eternally anchored. One's destination is never a place but rather a new way of looking at things.- Henry Miller

Everywhere I go I find a poet has been there before me.- Sigmund Freud

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry laugh eat worry and die it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other we may even become friends.- Maya Angelou

When you travel, remember that a foreign country is not designed to make you comfortable. It is designed to make its own people comfortable.- Clifton Fadiman

We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.- Jawaharal Nehru

The world is so empty if one thinks only of mountains, rivers, and cities; but to know someone here and there who thinks and feels with us, and who, though distant, is close to us in spirit, this makes the earth an inhabited garden.-Goethe

Santa Cruz Quixaya Library

This is a project that is very dear to my heart - a new library in Guatemala. Please take a look at the faces of these children as they get a donation of books. What a joy for me!
