The Museum of the National Center of Afro American Artists (NCAAA) exhibits black visual arts from around the world. The Museum presents a wide range of historical and contemporary exhibitions, including painting, sculpture, graphics, photography and decorative arts. The day I visited, there was an exhibit from South Africa. The facility is in a magnificent old building which has seen better days. The highlight is the huge bronze bust of a man's head which sits on the grounds. The facilkity can accomodate large groups and the curator was very knowledgeable and friendly.

It's hard to feel down in the dumps in Harvard Square. On the day I visited, there was a Chinese street musician, a girl with a guitar who sounded just like Tori Amos and a group of Colombian musicians playing flutes and guitars. Music is everywhere in the Square. I got caught up in the moment and got a dragonfly tatoo (henna). A little Indian girl walked up and showed me the one her granny had done on her arm.

Address: Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA
Directions: Take the (T) and get off at the Harvard Square stop. Right in the middle of the square there's a real live person in a booth who'll direct you to where you want to go. I suggest picking a direction and just walking. There's tons to do and see.

The African Meeting House and Abiel Smith School on Beacon Hill, both built in the early 1800's, are two of the Museum of Afro-American History's most valuable assets. Located in what once was the heart of Boston's 19th-century African American community, these buildings remain a showcase of black community organization and enduring testimony to black craftsmanship. Once a church, a school, a vital community meeting place, the African Meeting House is open to the public. The Abiel Smith School, the nation's first public school for African American children, currently houses a first-class exhibit space and the museum store.

On my 5th trip to Boston, I finally visited the JFK Museum and Library. I was not disappointed. The grounds are beautiful. I visited in July and flowers greeted me at the entrance to this massive structure. Getting through the exhibits is easy. Most are narrated by the voice of JFK himself; his speeches and interviews. To see and hear him again brought tears to my eyes. So many thoughts came to mind. But overall, I kept asking myself what if. What if this great leader had lived? Many have tried to muddy the legacy of this phenomenal man. I say, get in touch with his legacy, the speeches he left behind. He inspred all to reach for a higher calling. We have yet to see the kind of leadership and vision Kennedy embodied. I miss him all over again.

Jim_Eliason Sun Aug 26, 2007 21:56 UTC Nice page! | cymbaline77 Thu Jun 14, 2007 13:54 UTC I LOVE the enthusiasm about Boston! I (of course) love Boston, too. It is my home. I hope you have a great time in Somerville next month! Morrison House is within walking distance of where I live! | pchamlis Tue May 22, 2007 00:45 UTC Nothing sadder than a fifth-rate barbecue joint. :) I like Bahhhhston myself, and look forward to another visit to the Barking Crab for some chowdah. :) | yaya15923 Wed Dec 6, 2006 14:09 UTC I agree with your review on Redbones, not sure what all the hype is about. Although I do have to admit they make a kick booty Raspberry Margarita :o) |
