Bogor, West Java

Buitenzorg a long time ago

In 1745, Governor Van Imhoff built an estate which he named Buitenzorg. Fifty years later, in 1811, Java fell briefly to the British, and Governor Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles came to Buitenzorg and began to develop a garden around it. When the Dutch regained control in 1816, they continued the development of what became one of the great colonial plant collections. Buitenzorg, now called Bogor lies 290 mt above sea level about 60 Km south of Jakarta, Bogor also called the raining city offers Bogor many tourism attractions closely connected with the history of the area.
