Now the shops have disappeared, there is a new ferry terminal, and you can have a nice view of Lumut from across the river.

The Tin Mining Area - Kinta Valley

The tin mines provide spectacular scenery too, unexpectedly, if you drive through the sandy roads.

This is found from the road to Ayer Kuning, Kampar, from Tg Tualang.

Gua Tempurung, Gopeng

Take a break to Gua Tempurung, the famous show caves near Gopeng. Only 20 min drive from Ipoh, it has one of the most accessible large caves in Peninsular Malaysia.

Bird Sanctuary, Kuala Gula

Kuala Gula bird sanctuary is known for its migratory birds, especially the Siberian Stork.

It's off the Taiping - Bagan Serai road. Drive through thousands of acres of oil palm estates before you finally arrive.

The fishing village of Kuala Gula is also a fascinating place to visit, with the dried shrimps being sunned on the roads !
