Favorite Dish: Nothing really special in this one, though the crabs were once my favourite. Probably grown out of that ......
Cholesterol ! They say keep away ....

Sun Hon Siong: Fuzhou Food

One of the most esstablished restaurants in town, probably more than 50 years in business. The founder has passed away and his children have taken over his business.

For traditional Fuzhou cuisine, this has to be the one. Though the ambience might be lacking by modern standards, the price and food might make you forget that.

Anyway, where else can you find these specialty dishes?

Favorite Dish: Sea cucumbers in fish yaw ( bladder ) in hot sauce.

Try this ! Of course, also the famous "LuMien". And then, the RedWineChickenVermicelli Soup !

Usually not as spicy as the nyonya or Penang dishes. And maybe the Cantonese dishes are more sophisticated.

But, travellers have to eat out, or else starve !

Popular Indian Muslim ( Mamak ) Restaurant in town.

Favorite Dish: Curry Beef.

Well, curry is good, you can't deny it.

Did someone say they put Kas-Kas (poppy) in their curry ........ no wonder some are addicted ! Not me !

Sin Hai Seng Restaurant: Another Restaurant ? Oh NO !

Sorry to have to include another Chinese restaurant, but since there are dozens of them, should be fair to more of them .......

Favorite Dish: EngChiuMien Siang ........ More famously known as AnChiuMeeSua = Red Wine Vermicelli, cooked with chicken.

Sweet, sour, and with a little samsu ( redWine ). Should try it here ( and any other Fuzhou restaurant ).

Don't take this and drive !

A few Indian restaurants in Ayer Tawar. Now don't ask me about them, because they're all OK for the chillies.

Maybe you know what to order, I'll just leave it to the waiter/waitress ( if they are nice ).

Coconut Island: Sea Food ? Fried Rice ? Chicken Rice ?

There are simply too many restaurants in Ayer Tawar for the traveller to finish in a day. For a small town this is indeed great for the passing traveller.

Most of the restaurants are family-run and cater to the less demanding diners. Some are quite popular with travellers, usually sales people or tourists returning from Lumut/Pangkor. Common dishes like fish, prawns and squids are easily found here. The Fuzhou dishes are available in abundance, though their taste might not be appreciated by the unitiated.

There is a KFC outlet here. The other decent cafe is the Coconut Island which is a cosy Thai-Nyonya food with excellent dishes ! Certainly worth a try.

Other hawker fare are available more so in the evenings.

Favorite Dish: The Sambal Fish at Coconut Island is simply delicious !
