THE place for tourists coming to Malaysia.
You really will miss what the real Malaysia has to offer if you fail to visit Penang for at least 2 days.
The city of Georgetown seen from Penang Hill ( Bukit Bendera ) is a lovely view.
Pulau Pinang is the state in Malaysia comprising the Penang Island and the other portion is on the mainland, and it's called Seberang Prai.
You can see the Penang Bridge, 10 km long, across the straits. |
| | Auto-City, Juru, Seberang Perai, Pulau Pinang HEY am i confused !
Pulau Pinang is equal to Penang ?
Hold on !!!!!!!!!!
Penang was the name given by the British, and it was stuck in the language. Most people would know this name Penang. But the Malay version is Pulau Pinang which is Penang Island.
Now the island has such appeal that most people forget about the other side of Pulau Pinang, which is NOT an island, but the mainland Seberang Prai ( used to be Province Wellesley ).
Are you still confused ? I am ............
So, Pulau Pinang is Penang Island, but administratively it means Penang Island PLUS Seberang Perai which has almost the same population as the island, though being less glamorous farmers and labourers.
Of course, city folks dictate the terms !! |
This Name Looks Familiar ? Penang is world famous for its electronics industry. However they are mostly implants of foreign multinationals, as you can see here.
All the big names are here, in the Bayan Lepas Industrial Zone. No wonder people come to Penang ! The name must be somewhere in the subconscious ......... even if they've never intended to come here at all ...........
See how they caught you ! >!? | | | Motorola Factory, Bayan Lepas |

MikeBird Thu Feb 12, 2009 21:18 UTC A trip down memory lane. I visited Malaysia in 1973 and not been back. I loved Penang. Rasa Sayang hotel was being built so Batu Ferringhi was almost deserted. Went up to Kek Lok Si and saw the Snake Temple.
