...a beautiful country...

Hi everyone!

I am a Belgian girl living on a beautiful island of the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic.

I have been here for almost three years now, but haven't seen everything yet! The country is quite big, and some parts are hard to get to.

...full of surprises...

Besides the beautiful landscapes, I have discovered wonderful and warm people as well as a rich culture!

A street of Puerto Plata

During the last three years, I have also experienced the ups and downs of the Dominican economy.

But listening to the songs of a famous Dominican singer and songwriter, Juan Luis Guerra, made me realize that the situation was not an exception. He talks about the inflation, the devaluation of the peso, unemployment, corruption...

Here are the lyrics of "El costo de la vida", a song written in the early 90s:

"El costo de la vida sube otra vez
el peso que baja, ya ni se ve
y las habichuelas no se pueden comer
ni una libra de arroz, ni una cuarta de café
a nadie le importa qué piensa usted
será porque aquí no hablamos inglés (...)

Y la gasolina sube otra vez

The peso has been stable for a few months, but until when??!?!
