"Well, this is me" dbrener's Profile
It's always hard to start saying something about yourself... It's so much easier to just let other people judge you and make their own impressions. So what can I say? I'm Danijel :) I love to travel, that is how I joined here in the first place. I have lived in Zagreb my whole life, always too active, always looking to experience as much as possible, to do as much as possible. I'm that sort of a person, I guess. I'm also a member of the IAESTE student organization in Zagreb, Croatia, and that got me into contact with hundreds of people from all over the world. That's how I have fallen in love with meeting new people and cultures, that is when I decided I just want to travel as much as possible. After all, I always preffered to live with full lungs, always ready for adventure... At first, it was a lot of Europe... Places easy to reach. It was good, it was very nice to meet all the new people, but it oozes a feeling of similarity. You can hardly expect to see much difference in the area that's been culturally connected for centuries... That's when I was introduced to Colombia. And that's when I first saw how special travelling can be. So as you can imagine, this page will just go on and on and on about travelling. No private info falling on my mind, so if anybody wants to get to know me better... Well, write to me, haha :)
Well, Colombia sort of came along as a collateral visit, I was going there as a delegate for Croatia on a IAESTE General Conference in Cartagena de Indias. I has no idea what was in store... It was such a completely new atmosphere, new way of life that I came totally unprepared.
From the moment we landed in Bogota and saw all the troops over there... From the complete chaos that followed while we were waiting for a flight to Cartagena de Indias... And then, as you approach the Bocagrande, you just can't believe the beauty that's just standing there. Coming out in the middle of winter (in my standards, of course), just to find tropical 30 C in 10pm. I could speak for hours, I'll just leave a couple of pictures in the gallery... From Cartagena de Indias, coral reefs at Rosario Islands, carneval in Barranquilla, Santa Marta to Bogota and Zipaquira, I fell in love with Colombia. Of course, some people will never go there because it's supposedly dangerous... I'd be on the first flight there if I had a ticket, just to re-live it all again.
From the moment I came back, I knew that once you see the way they live, you can never go back. I just came back with a bit of a new appreciation for life and how I'm supposed to live it... And with a 3,5 months of traineeship in Shanghai too... :)
And finally, now I am in Shanghai... For 3 months. Such a huge city... If somebody still thinks China is lagging back behind the world, you should just see the skyscrapers of Lujiazui or the traditional blend of colonial architecture and ultra-modern buildings on the Bund. I spent a fantastic time in China, went all over China, from Beijing and Haerbin, to the Hong Kong and Macau in the south...
And now, I'm back to Croatia. After Shanghai, Croatia, my city, it's simply too boring, too hard to get involved into again... Only good thing about it is, my girlfriend came from Brasil and is staying with me here for a while. So, next year, it's my turn... And then, it's just South America, hopefully for months! :)
