... the heart of Coogee.
Coogee beach gets more visitors to it than any other beach in the country. That's obviously mainly due to the talent at the local surf club ;) It might also be partly because its a safe beach that has a wading pool for children at the Southern End and is sheltered by the fact that its in a bay with Weddingcake Island about 1km off the beach.
Surfclub members have been pulling drowning tourists out of the surf for the last 98 years. We also provide another valuable service to tourists by posing in their photos with them. This is a regular request... so don't be shy!!!
For surfclub members, a highlight of the surfclub is Sunday afternoon beers at the club - there's no better view of the beach than from the surfclub, and no cheaper beers in Coogee.
The Coogee Bay Hotel (CBH) + +
The CBH plays host to visitors from all parts of the world. It has a great beer garden and several bars. In summer its a laid back place to be with a fairly relaxed dress code. The beer garden gets a bit chilly in winter, so you might have to retreat into the Arden bar... which is the classy bit, or into the Front bar, where there is often live music. For the teeny boppers there's a nightclub, which is also where prestigious events such as the Ms Backpacker and the Mr Surf and Turf are held.
The Palace - Aquarium Bar
The highlight of the Palace is without a doubt Sunday afternoons in the aquarium bar in summer. The Palace has a great view over Coogee (not as good as the surfclub - above) and in Summer it gets packed with people keen to stretch the weekend to the last. I'm sure its a major contributor to Mondayitis and increased number of sickies... but definitely worthwhile.
To adapt the words of our former Prime Minister: Any boss who sacks a worker for having Monday off after a big night at the Palace is a bum!
Five-O's is a new bar / restaraunt that offers meals from $5. See sepereate tip on the subject. You've gotta eat, nad may as well have a cold beer at the same time.

- Pros:Why would you live anywhere else?
- Cons:Have to leave to go to work on Mondays :(
- In a nutshell:I have to delay traveling so that I get to have summer in Coogee
This is a quite popular walk - along the coastline between Coogee and Bondi. The walk offers some spectacular rock... more travel advice
So the surf season is over... what are you supposed to do on the weekend? Well if there's no patrol on the beach, it... more travel advice
