Where Am I?

Blink and Double Blink

East or West? Which is Which?
Being excreted from the concrete bowel that comprises Warszawa Centralna I had to have a double take of my first impression of Warsaw - there was a certain familiarity to the immediate visual. Who stole what from whom? The pics that aren't Warsaw's town hall are in fact from Buffalo NY - plagarism or coincidence?

Hmmm?

I'm not sure whether I enjoyed Warsaw or not: I had a few beers, a few wodkas, pleasant enough place to wander, nice people, but not a place that I found easy to connect with - perhaps my own mood at the time, perhaps the fact that the weather was so dismal (admittedly it was early January) and that the daylight hours were so short - a revisit I don't think would go amiss - maybe next year and get a visa for a Russian visit to loop around.
Nice People - as were all.

The Only Bar That I Liked :(

I wandered: old town and new; main drags; off side streets; miles and miles, quite often finding myself as the only customer in what should have been John bars - but the only one I found that sort of suited me was an "Irish Pub" - everywhere else was just too upbeat for me. The "Irish Pub" was OK - not really Irish at all: it did sell Guinness and Jameson's, though these were perhaps the only Irishnessnesses about the place - but I do feel a certain disappointment in that it became my local haunt (Zwiec and Wyborka rather than ....) - not a John thing - but the food was good, the service friendly; I may as well have been in London, apart from the different language - all a bit of a nowhere, a city looking for itself - just like London!!

Pros:"The Old Town"
Cons:"The New Town"
In A Nutshell:"If I could have only found ONE decent bar.........."

Enjoyed reading your hotel tip. Those three buildings used to serve as hotels for workmen in communist times. Pity you had to leave Warsaw so soon. Let me know when you are here next.
