The green pissoirs here in Amsterdam never fail to bring to mind the old joke about the Admiral and the Field Marshall at the annual Combined Services Dinner: As the Field Marshall finishes his business with a quick shake and a rezip and heads towards the door the Admiral admonishes him, "Excuse me Sir! At Dartmouth we were taught to wash our hands after using the toilet." To which the Field Marshall responds, "Actually Dear Chap, at Sandhurst we were taught not to pee on our hands in the first place!" Ha, OK "Toilet Humour"! but the point is that the green pissoirs are just that, so follow the Field Marshall's example ;P

For food on the hoof forget about MacDonald's (boo hiss!), grab a bit of raw fish from one of the many stalls around the city. Spankingly (once again for want of a better word!) fresh herring in a bread roll with pickle and raw onion for about 3 Euro makes for a healthy fast-food option: think "brain food" and is absolutely delicious and will soak up a couple of those beers you just had for lunch ;p

If I am fortunate enough to be reincarnated as human (very doubtful, will probably be as a lawyer), I can think of nothing worse than to be reincarnated as a Dutch bargee, with my home on the canals, meandering and making my living simultaneously, almost a bit like being a snail except that you don't actually have to physically carry your home on your back! Can you be prosecuted for being drunk in charge of a barge? LOL!

Local Customs: Fritessaus or Mayonnaise? ....

...now THAT is the question!! And so adding to the impromnable philosphical questions about life, Amsterdam adds its own. Well, of course we all know which came first: "the chicken or the egg?" We all understand the holistic problems of meaning and belief - well don't we? But WHAT is the difference between fritessaus and mayonnaise? That truly is a question to be answered, whether to be or not to be - do you put it on your salad, or put it on your fries? - or both? A multi-tasking, all-singing, all dancing accompaniement at 4 am with your kebab. HA! Just put it on everything, that's what I say, and then you can't go wrong ;p
