Nightlife Spot: Agyon Anargyron
Agyon Anargyron is a street in the Psyrri area of Athens between Platia Agyon Anargyron and Platia Iroon just behind the Monastiraki Metro station and is composed of nothing but cafes and bars, lining both sides of the street. During the day these, if they are open, are just normal laid-back places to stop off for a beer or a light bite but in the evening become the in-place for Athenian night owls. Just about every bar on the strip has live Greek music, ranging from solo singer/guitarists to proper bands and the place is rocking. On the one night that I was taken there every single terrace was full until we reached the last one on the street and the street itself was a mass of people.
The music from every doorway and the chatter made for a great atmosphere with everyone out to enjoy themselves and despite the alcohol being consumed there was no obvious signs of drunkeness, just a general, civilized European buzz.
