A Day Trip To Delphi

by johngayton - last update: Aug 21, 2006

The Temple of Apollo
It is easy to understand why Delphi was once considered the centre of the Universe with its spectacular mountain location on the edge of the Gulf of Corinth. In some ways Delphi is historically the most interesting of the ancient Greek sites with its importance as a religous centre preceding its more modern significance as the home of the Oracle and its present status as a tourist attraction.

A useful site is: http://www.greeklandscapes.com/greece/delphi.html which has a concise summary of its history and a couple of interesting links.

Following in the footsteps of the ancients who visited the Oracle from all over the region (and further afield) Delphi still retains a fascination for the modern tourist and is one of the most visited sites in Greece and makes for a good day out from Athens, though on reflection I think it would have been worth an overnight stop, when I visited by bus, to fully take in everything that the site and town have to offer.

Ha ha! Either the waitresses are getting younger or..... hmmm, could it be? I keep trying to figure out where I stayed in Delphi and I can't figure it out. We had a fantastic view of the Bay way below.
