Eggesford is a small parish in a sort of no-man's land between North and South Devon consisting of a few houses, its railway station, a reasonably upmarket country house hotel (with a decent bar!) and a rather magnificent church. Situated on the River Taw and part of The Tarka Trail it is surrounded by woodlands, most of which are owned and managed by the Forestry Commision, with waymarked trails accessible both to walkers and cyclists.

All my previous experiences of Eggesford have been when the trains stop there on the single track Tarka Line between Barnstaple and Exeter to allow each other to pass but having now discovered that there is perhaps more to the place than just the railway station then I think a revisit is in the offing.
