Getting TO/AROUND: In common with the vast majority of European cities Bari suffers from an overload of the infernal combusting engined vehicles resulting in serious traffic congestion and problematic parking. This is where owning one of these smart cars comes in handy and here in Bari the streets sometimes seem as if there is a smart car convention in town there are so many of them. And so if you are considering hiring a car here - think SMART!

    Transportation: Bari Ferry Port
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': TO
    Category: Ship/Boat
Getting TO/AROUND: Whilst Bari is well worth a visit in its own right, for the majority of people visiting it will be to catch or disembark a ferry to either Greece, Dubrovnik or Serbia. The port is located on the Corso Antonio De Tullie, pretty much in the city centre, and is easily accessible by all other forms of transport. Arriving by car the A14 from Rome or the A16 from Naples both lead direct to the port and it is within walking distance from the railway station (about 20 mins) or a short bus or taxi ride. From the airport it is about 5 Km (20 mins drive), once again either by bus or taxi.

As well as the ferry services the port also services various cruise lines.

The port has a rooftop bar/restaurant above the ferry offices with great views across the bay and is quite reasonably priced:)

Just reread this. It's every bit as good as any Steinbeck I've read. You not only capture the spirit of the place but all 5 of my senses are taken there. Like I said before, bravissimo!
