Cairo is probably not the best place to visit if you are pregnant. It's incredibly polluted, everyone seems to smoke...constantly and the stress of continually trying to avoid being ripped off can really take it's toll after a while. Not to mention the deathwish driving, crowds and language barrier if you don't speak Arabic.
We stayed in Cairo for a week and at 5 months pregnant, this was a wee bit of a challenge for me. Although we enjoyed our week there and felt it was a good adventure, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to anyone if they are pregnant. My friends all thought I was mad and with hindsight....
Cairo is a crazy city and certainly has it's charms but it is probably best visited in a few days. A sense of humour is essential!!! |
People The people warrent a mention. They have a real charm and sense of humour. However, nowhere in the world (surely) can there be more skilled and persistent salespeople!
Be prepared to haggle and be firm. At first this is fun. After 7 days of constant attempted scamming, it becomes tiresome. Us Brits are not exactly well prepared for this part of the culture and it's important to try and understand it. |
