You can't go to Paris and not visit the Eiffel Tower. And despite my fear of heights I managed to brave the journey to the top of the tower in order to appreciate the wonderful views of the city. The Eiffel tower lights sparkle on occasion at night and if you're unlucky (like me!) you'll miss the sparkles. It happened when I was at the top and being afraid of heights meant that I didn't dare lean over the sides to have a look. But I'm assured that the sparkles are beautiful though I've heard that some parisians disagree. There are lots of sellers outside trying to flog tacky plastic models of the tower and the usual cheap tourist tat. Avoid it as you can get better quality goods elsewhere. There is something about this landmark that captivates. It epitomises the wonderful city of Paris and is beautiful in it's structure.
