There are two long-established sporting clubs in Cairo: The Gezira Club in Zamalek; and the Shooting Club [nadi Said] in Dokki.
Membership is expensive $1000 a year for a family. Guests can be signed in by members for 10 Egypt P, or 25 Ep at weekends.
At the Shooting Club, for example, there are a number of facilities- football, tennis, softball, martial arts, walking track, swimming pool, clay pigeon shooting among others.
Restaurants and cafes are scattered throughout the spacious grounds; there is a mosque, a children's playground with cages full of peacocks, guineafowl and a few other birds.
The grounds are well landscaped and there are waterfeatures like fountains, artificial streams and waterfalls. lamps and arches are nicely decorated wrought iron. It is a pleasant place to spend time and the food is very cheap.
Equipment: if participating in any of the sports it is best to have your own equipmwnt.
For those using the walking track which is just over 900 metres long, you must wear suitable shoes [trainers]' Running on the track is not allowed.
