An ancient walled town | Suspension bridge and castle |
Set on the Conwy estuary, this was once a thriving fishing village. The quay is now used more for pleasure craft than for working boats, although there is still a busy mussel fishing industry in the working from the quay.
The town is dominated by its huge stone castle, which is open daily to visitors. The town walls are also complete, and it is possible to walk an almost complete circuit.
There are numerous restaurants and pubs, catering for all tastes and wallets, and as you would expect at a seaside town, a choice of fish and chip shops.
Throughout the year there are numerous events such as the Seed Fair, Conwy Feast (food festival), the Honey Fair, the Regatta, the Bluegrass Festival and the Morris Dancing Festival.
Conwy is an excellent base for touring the surrounding area, and a trip along the Conwy valley to Betws y Coed, returning through Snowdonia and along the coastal A55 is a must. |
