Restaurant Name: The Central Hotel
This restaurant had been recommended to us, and when we saw that the menu was German and not catering to tourist tastes, we decided to give it a try. We were there during the asparagus season, and they had a special asparagus menu in addition to their usual menu. All of the food was freshly prepared and cooked on the premises, including the mouthwatering gateaux. The service was excellent, and the surroundings were very comfortable. We chose this restaurant for our last night treat, as it is slightly more expensive than some of the others in the village, but it is worth it for the quality.
Favorite Dish: We chose 500gms asparagus with Hollandaise sauce and new potatoes to start. We asked if we could share the dish, and this was no problem - it was even served on two separate plates. The asparagus was the thick white variety favoured in Germany, not the thinner green variety usually found in the UK. The asparagus was tender but still with some bite, and was complemented perfectly by the light sauce.
For our main course we chose wild venison casserole with wild mushrooms. This was accompanied by home made spatzle (noodles), fried in butter and dressed with nutmeg, and red cabbage and apple. The portions were huge, and the food was out of this world.
For dessert we had gooseberry gateau and apple pie. Both were delicious.
