The only thing Nuenen is (perhaps) famous for is that the painter Vincent van Gogh lived here from 1883 till 1885 and painted several famous pieces of art, including his famous 'Aardappeleters' (potato eaters). He wasn't born here (some people like to think so?!) but he was born in Achtmaal near Breda.
There isn't much to see in Nuenen about van Gogh, except for a statue in the main park (see picture), a monument and a small museum near the City Hall. In this museum there are all replicas, as the original paintings are displayed in Museums mainly in Amsterdam.
Nuenen has about 23000 inhabitants and is mainly a so called 'sleeping town' for people working in Eindhoven or surroundings, as it is on the main road from Eindhoven to Helmond.
On december 4th 2000 Nuenen celebrated it's 700 year existence. This was celebrated with several activities including a 'historisch schouwspel', a play about the History of Nuenen, wich featured many inhabitants of Nuenen. I personally was involved in the play as technician. Just making sure everyone could hear the play properly.

121 will take you to Nijmegen if you don't stop in Nuenen.
