The town of Carmen is in Central Bohol and about 60 kilometers from Tagbilaran City. Carmen is most well known as the seat of Chocolate Hills, indubitably the most popular tourist destination in Bohol.

Much had been written about Chocolate Hills. If you had been there, you probably read the bronze plate which gives information about the hills.

They are brown during dry season and green during wet season. They are made of corals and limestone. They are considered as geological wonders as scientists could not determine concisely and with definiteness, the formation of the hills.

Even folklore has different versions of the legends of the hills. The romantic one iis about the tragic love story of Arogo (a giant) and Aloya (a mortal), which left Arogo crying and the tears became the hills when they dired up. Another one is about two warring giants who threw stones, sand and mud at each other which turned into hills after the giants patched up and differences and left the island. This could probably explain where the adjoing town Batuan got its name.

Aside from the hills, Carmen is a showcase of simple and rustic life in Bohol. The farmers of Carmen take advantage of the water spring emanating from each hill for good plantation. Such water spring dispenses with the need of irrigation system in Carmen. The ricefields of Carmen complement the beauty of the Chocolate hills.
