TWO FACES OF PAMILACAN ISLAND | PAMILACAN ISLAND BETWEEN A CLOUD AND THE SEA |
Pamilacan Island is known for the organized whale and dolphin watching. While it is part of the town of Baclayon, a lot of its visitors are tourists from Panglao island.
The western tip of the island is the designated spot for tourism and the eastern tip is for livelihood.
Pamilacan can be reached by boat either from Baclayon (with 45 minutes travel time) or from Panglao (with 1 hour travel time) |
| | WESTERN TIP This is the area designated for tourism and more specifically for dolphin and whale watching. It has some cottages for rent and the old spanish watchtower still stands. The people here are very friendly and they can engage you in animated conversation ranging from their previous experiences with dolphins/whales to catching a tuna. This is the side of the island facing Baclayon.
The diving site and the marine sanctuary which is also the snorkeling site are located in this side of the island |
EASTERN SIDE This side is for livelihood where fishermen's bancas are moored. When you reach this side, you will be greeted with unpleasant odor and once you land, you will discover why. The side of the island is where the manta rays from Surigao are slaughtered, washed, cooked, treated and dried. According to the locals, catching manta rays is prohibited in Bohol and they get the manta rays from suppliers from Surigao and then they will sell the dried manta rays to dealers from Cebu. | | |
