You've found it! After doing a search for Enniskillen on VT and complaining (politely!) to Giampiero that it didnt' exist, he explained that the town is listed under its Irish name (which I can't even spell). So if you made it this far, congratulations! |
I love Enniskillen. County Fermanagh has always been my favourite county in Northern Ireland. I am not sure if it is the beautiful countryside or the weather (usually wet) but I have always felt at home there. And Enniskillen being the largest town in the county is the first place to head to. It has the usual array of country shops advertising 'keen prices' and the (now rare) home bakery or two. There is also the Erne Waterway running through town where you can hire a boat and sail past Enniskillen Castle. On the edge of town is the remains of another castle, this one a plantation building, with a rather fascinating history.
There are 2 National Trust houses in Enniskillen, both worth a visit but allow plenty of time to see them. And of course, there is the Marble Arch Caves nearby - a very interesting tour if you like caves (and don't mind boats).
Enniskillen is definitely worth a visit for a short break and makes a lovely spot for a base to explore more of Fermanagh, Donegal and Leitrim. |
