Definitely a place to see. The City Hall is there, and wonderful museums too. Easy to get there, in the middle of a very popular and important area.

Aurelian Walls are the walls that used to be the bounds of the ancient city. Rome got larger soon but these "forts" will give you the idea of how proud we Romans are about our city. Dang, we built walls that no one could ever destroy, to protect our mom, our city, our pride. Walking by them, you will have amazing sensations, particular feelings and you'll understand Rome a bit more. Mmm, anyway, don't forget... IT'S A LONG WALK!!!

Campo de' Fiori is the real melting pot of Rome. This square will have an open market every morning; you should go there to taste roman flavours, roman spices and popular atmosphere. On nightime it all changes. This square is full of pubs, clubs, bars and everything else to enjoy your time. Tourists will meet there people from their own countries and roman young people will go there to pick some tourists up. Hey ladies, if you are looking for some hot roman guys, that's the place to be.

Castel Sant'Angelo is a very romantic castle. My advice is to visit it inside, get on top and read all stories about it. It's very underrated by tourists, but... hey, they are only tourists!

Rome is full of Catacombs. Rome was a pagan city as much as now it is catholic. Catholics were not allowed at the beginning and they had to hide to avoid death. There are dozens of Catacombs all around, but, once you've seen one, sincerely, there's no reason to see all others. You're in Rome, you gotta see a lot of stuff, don't loose too much time with them!

The Colosseo is the perfect symbol of Rome. There's a reason if it's the first thing you think about when you're gonna think of Rome. It represents Rome and Romans perfectly. It's the first stadium of the world, it shows you how much romans like to enjoy life and entertainment, it shows the majesty of the Empire, the sense of eternal life. Emperors understood that to keep romans' mood high they had to provide them shows and organized entertainment. More than 100.000 people could have fun there before a rich roman family bought it and took pieces away to build up their own building. I hate Barberini family! Go watch the Colosseo, get inside and read as much as you can about its history.

Pay attention dudes! I swear, there's nothing better to go to the island, lay down by the river, sunglasses an a book. Then take the book away, put your hands behind your neck and watch all around yourself. The city's noise will be turned off, and all you will listen to, it will be the river and the birds. This is Rome, an eternal feeling of attractions and relax.

Piazza del Popolo, with its main gate, it's the first thing that people from the north would see coming from the north with riding their horses. When you're walking in the middle of it you feel the king of he world, you have two twin (fake twins, one is a little bit bigger) churches in front, the Pincio terrace on your left and three of the most important streets of the world to choose between. An advice? Walk up to the Pincio terrace and remain astonished by the sightseen!

It's rather unbelievable that romans used what now is one of the most beautiful squares of the world, as a training camp for their naval battles. In time Bernini, Borromini and some other myths built up wonderful things. One trick? They say Bernini's Fountain's main charachter has his hand on his face because he was scared that church (built by Borromini) may crash down on him; it's fake, the fountain was built before. And: do you know why in Europe we say that people from Portugal don't pay tickets? In 19th century the Brazilian Embassade in Piazza Navona organized a party and Brazilian people that wanted to go wouldn't pay. Portugueses, using same language, said they were Brazilians, got inside and ate for free! Anyway, take a walk in the small streets behind the main church... they're great! This square must be visited between Jan 1st and Jan 6th.

eileencat1 Wed May 16, 2007 02:17 UTC Wonderful Roma page! I love the Pellacchia bar on Via Cola di Rienzo for their ice cream too! Each time I am in Roma I make sure I go there at least two times! |
